Human bones have been discovered at a scrapyard in St Osyth.
A member of the public called Essex Police on Thursday 25th April after making the discovery near Cockett Wick Lane.
Officers now think they've found most of what they believe to be the skeleton of an elderly man.
The death is being treated as unexplained.
A forensic examination of the bones is currently taking place, and missing persons records are also being searched.
An Essex Police issued this statement:
"Detectives are investigating after a member of the public discovered a number of bones at a scrapyard near to Cockett Wick Lane in St. Osyth on Thursday, April 25.
"Specialist officers continued to search the area and found the majority of what is believed to be the skeleton of an elderly man.
"Detectives are treating the death as unexplained and are searching the Essex missing persons records, whilst a forensic examination of the bones takes place."
